Sustainable Furnishings Council

E-mail

The Sustainable Furnishings Council is a non-profit coalition of producers, specifiers and retailers of green furnishings with 250 members currently.  This is a great resource to locate products.  One of the board members is Mike Italiano, who founded the USGBC among other things and is very passionate about this issue, as I learned when we met a few years ago in Chicago, Illinois.

Avoid Greenwashing

E-mail

Greenwashing is a term used to describe products, processes, or companies that are presented as "green" but lack the characteristics that make a product green.  You have probably experienced this, such as when you buy a national product labeled recyclable only to find that it is only recyclable in certain areas of only a few states.  Read this article in Sherwin Williams Stir Magazine and scroll to the bottom for further resources.
